The Ugly Truth About Data Loss

Did you know that over 140,000 hard drives crash each week in the United States alone? Not a pretty thought. The reality is, between hard drive failures, network attacks and natural disasters, many factors beyond your control can put your data at risk…unless you take action.

Any computer in use routinely, should have a daily backup stored locally and remotely. Also, the backups SHOULD be tested for functionality to mitigate data corruption over the long term.

RAID, or redundant array of independent disks, increases data reliability and availability to the customer. As there are various levels of RAID, RAID 1 essentially mirrors the contents of the disks, making a form of 1:1 ratio real-time backup. A RAID 1 array requires a minimum of two drives. RAID 1 mirrors the data, during the writing process and copies the data identically to both drives, this is NOT suitable as a permanent backup solution, as RAID technology by design allows for certain failures to take place.
